Many Seattle area residents know Doug Basler as the host of the radio program Eyes on Washington on AM1590 The Answer. What they often don’t know is that Doug has overcome many obstacles in his life that are the root to his passion to represent the hard working families of District 9 and is on a mission to reform the federal government so that all of the residents can experience the best life possible.
Born and raised in Washington State, Doug has been married to the love of his life, Lori, for over 30 years and has five fantastic children. His two oldest daughters graduated from UW, his son works in the technology industry and his two youngest daughters attend middle school and high school in Kent. They love living in Washington and enjoy the many cultural, recreational and educational benefits of this area.
Doug graduated from Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley after a tumultuous childhood. Doug’s parents divorced while he was in 2nd grade. He experienced the trauma of being raised by a single mother and eventually landed in a mixed family with his father, a Teamster’s Union truck driver for Burlington Northern railroad. From an early age Doug was industrious. At the age of 12, he was consistently the top newspaper subscription salesman and actually held down 3 jobs simultaneously during high school. After graduation he worked in food service, construction, factory work and as a professional musician.
Even as a young man he started several businesses while pursuing sales and management with larger corporations, always working hard to support his growing family. In addition to his professional pursuits Doug became a broadcaster in 1990 on a small AM radio station in Portland Oregon and also began working in Television in 1993. In 2005 he produced an award winning TV program that was picked up by a major TV Network and broadcast around the world for 3 years.
In 2007, Doug and Lori started a new TV production company. In 2008, he left his management career to pursue this business full time. Doug and Lori became active in politics in 2009 and after producing several TV commercials for GOP candidates, the Basler’s found themselves targeted, along with other conservatives by the IRS and were forced to close the business down. In 2012 they began a new company that has now grown to employ more than 12 people.
Doug is passionate about his community and has been a volunteer youth leader for over 30 years, as well as working with the homeless and underprivileged. Doug is a strong advocate for education reform, family values and creating jobs amongst many other issues.
